Hermann Marwede is a modern German marine rescue vessel. The vessel was launched in 2003 and entered service shortly thereafter. The overall length of the vessel is 46 meters and the width is 10.7 meters. Propulsion is provided by three diesel engines with a total power of 9250 HP, allowing a top speed of 25 knots. Hermann Marwede was built by the German shipyard Fassmer Werft and one of the subcontractors was the Polish company Aluship Gdańsk, which built the hull of the vessel. Hermann Marwede was created for the German Maritime Rescue Society (German abbreviation: DGzRS), and its name honored the long-time donor of this organization. The unit is characterized by very modern equipment and a high degree of automation, which allowed a significant reduction in the crew. Hermann Marwede is widely considered to be one of the largest ships of its class in the world.
