The Sd.Kfz.2 (kleines Kettenkraftrad Sd.Kfz. 2) is a German light multi-purpose vehicle from World War II. This vehicle was a kind of combination of a motorcycle and a tractor. The prototype was built at the NSU-Werke factory in 1940. In June 1941, it was officially accepted into service with the Wehrmacht. In total, by 1945, more than 8,000 of these vehicles were built. Interestingly, production continued after the war, for civilian needs. The main tasks of the Sd.Kfz.2 are mainly the transportation of small loads, towing light weapons and laying telephone cables. The Sd.Kfz.2 served mainly in North Africa and on the Eastern Front, on a large scale from 1942. The vehicle had excellent off-road characteristics and a high top speed. The disadvantage was the extremely complex structure, especially the suspension.
