The Panzer IV was the most widely used German tank during World War II. It represented the "backbone" of the German Panzer Divisions in all theaters of operations. The production of the Panzer IV Ausf. F, which began in 1941, marked a decisive impetus in the development of the tank. It featured improved armor in the turret and hull. The first version of the Panzer IV F, with the traditional 7.5 cm. The short-barreled KwK 37 gun, could not successfully combat the Soviet heavy armored tanks T-34 and KV-1. The adoption of the anti-tank long-barreled KwK 40 gun design, in the Ausf. F2 version, has decisively increased the effectiveness of the Panzer IV against enemy tanks. Thanks to its new high-velocity and high-penetration gun, the Panzer IV became, once again, "deadly" on the battlefield. They were used, albeit in limited numbers, with the 15th and 21st Panzer Divisions on the North African front.
