Greece had been receiving deliveries of F-4Es from the United States since 1974, but by the 1990s, these aircraft were being retired due to obsolescence. In the midst of this, an improved version of the F-4E, the F-4E AUP, appeared, with upgrades such as a modernized radar and the ability to handle the AIM-120 missile. It made its first flight on April 28, 1999.
This 1/48 scale model kit of the F-4E AUP from Meng includes a metal pitot tube, photo-etched parts, and paint masks. It also comes with an AIM-9M, AIM-120B, an AN/AAQ-28 Lightning targeting pod, and an AGM-6.
