The Mikojan-Guriewicz MiG-17 is a Soviet, single-engine, mid-wing all-metal jet fighter with swept wings and a conventional tail, known by its NATO reporting name as Fresco. Its prototype first flew in January 1950. The MiG-17 was an evolution of the MiG-15 design, with changes focusing on a new engine (Klimov VK-1F), improved aerodynamics, and the inclusion of radar in one of its variants.

Several main versions of this aircraft were developed. The first mass-production version was the MiG-17F. Another version, equipped with radar, was the MiG-17PF, while the MiG-17PFU variant could guide missiles using the aircraft's radar. The aircraft was also built under license in Poland and China. In Poland, serial production began in 1956 under the designation Lim-5, and an attack variant (Lim-6bis) was also created.

The MiG-17 remains in use with the air forces of Mali and North Korea.
